Description
Summary
The encyclical Dominum et Vivificantem, published in 1986 in preparation for the Great Jubilee at the dawn of the new millennium, contains John Paul II’s teaching on him «who with the breath of divine life permeates man’s earthly pilgrimage and causes all creation, all history, to flow together to its ultimate end, in the infinite ocean of God» (DEV 64). Although not explicitly dealing with the attitude of the Church toward other religions, this theological meditation has to be considered a milestone on the way to the first World Day of Prayer for Peace in Assisi in the same year. From the heart of John Paul II’s inspiring reflections the article wants to clarify some basic presuppositions for a theology of religions, the emerging theological discipline which is still in search of its epistemological status.
